5 Ways to Sweat in Colorado

After two weeks of torrential rains and hailstorms, it's officially summer in Denver, and time to stretch our legs and rid ourselves of remaining winter coats.  Fortunately, this is a wonderful place in the world to do just that!

1.  Colorado is famous for its Rocky Mountains, and peaks over 14,000 feet, affectionately called 14ers, are way to experience the freshest (albeit thinnest) air, coolest temps and most breathtaking of views...and it will burn you out!  Mt. Elbert is ranked #1 of 53 14ers, is deemed a Class 1 in difficulty and 14,433 feet in altitude.  Adorable towns access Mt. Elbert, including Aspen, Leadville and Twin Lakes.  Don't you dare do this alone...get a friend, a guide, and plan your trip with our award-winning concierge team.

2.  Grab a bike and take a majestic ride from Frisco to Vail.  The views on the paved bike path from Frisco to Vail Pass are incredible.  Bring a TON of water...you'll climb uphill for 11 miles, and then enjoy another 11 miles on the way down.  Stop at Copper Mountain for a healthy lunch and tell your friends you saw three great mountain towns in the same day!

3. Run, walk, or rent a horse and hit the Colorado Highline Trail.  Traversing a hillside overlooking the Snowmass Valley, the Highline Trail is a pleasant romp through the fragrant scrubland that covers the Roaring Fork Valley at lower elevations...make sure to hit the trail before the sun bakes you in the early afternoon, or begin in the late afternoon to watch the sun paint the mountains pink and blue!

4.  Closer to Hotel Teatro, one of our favorite spots is Red Rocks, which we spoke about last week for concerts and films.  Well, you can suck wind here, too.  The crazy Denver locals visit this breathtaking venue on the weekends to sweat so hard they cry.  Here's a snipet of the workout:

  • we begin with a giant lunging step up the bleachers with two pushups per bleacher 1 underhand 1 overhand with a clap inbetween
  • up one bleacher fall to reverse hand push up knee to elbow
  • bench to bench lunges with two pushups per knee to elbow reverse grip
  • decline divebomber pushups
  • run side steps to the top x 2
  • bleachers up to top 34 left toe raise - 34 right toe raise
  • That's the warmup...there are nearly 100 more turns in the circuit.  Don't let us second guess you...you're up for the challenge.  Click here for the full workout and to sign up!

    5. Right down the street from Hotel Teatro, you can enjoy the comforts of a leisurely stroll or ride down the Platte River Trail.  It begins at 15th Street, goes through Confluence Park and merges onto the South or North Platte and the Cherry Creek Trail.  Spend 15 minutes and stay close, or enjoy all 18.7 miles and views of the Denver skyline from afar.  Here's the best news...Hotel Teatro offers a courtesy running or biking partner, so you can leave your bread crumbs in Prima Ristorante.
